崇宁通宝是北宋徽宗赵佶崇宁年间(1102-1106年)始铸，年号钱。有崇宁通宝、崇宁重宝和崇宁元宝三种。崇宁通宝当十型，钱文为徽宗亲书，所以又其为御书钱。工艺特色非常显著。《宋史·食货志》有记载：“把生铁打成薄片，排放在贮有胆水的槽中，浸渍几天，然后刮取析出的泥状铜(称作“赤煤”)，入炼炉化炼。”崇宁通宝是宋徽宗时期比较重要的钱币之一，因此要仿制它是很难的。目前市场上作假一般有两种方式，一种是改刻，就是用普通钱币改刻成珍贵钱币。另外一种就是造假。如是用跟真币比较，就不难发现首先从文字上看，就没有瘦金体的刚劲有力，也缺乏御书体的那种大气。观察此币不难发现字体刚劲有力，符合徽宗的真迹，实属难得。
此枚崇宁通宝钱币书法清秀骨瘦，铁划银钩，是徽宗赵佶瘦金书体存留世间的真实显现。宋徽宗更因铸钱精绝，当时官造成色在96%-96.7%高于崇宁重宝、崇宁元宝，而与王莽并称“钱法二圣”，是现在青铜钱中价值高的两种钱币之一。有泉界先贤说:“搜罗此泉数百种，陈览于绿窗绮几之间，真无异展开一部瘦金字帖也”。公元1100年1月，北宋皇帝哲宗病故，由其弟赵佶接替做了北宋第八任皇帝，为宋徽宗。徽宗“性甚机巧，优于技艺”，终日沉迷于书法绘画，不理朝纲。他在位25年，先后铸造了圣宋通宝、崇宁通宝（重宝）、大观通宝、政和通宝（重宝）、重和通宝、宣和通宝（元宝）等6种钱币，其中崇宁通宝和大观通宝的钱文是徽宗亲书的瘦金体。令人叫绝的是折十型瘦金书体的崇宁通宝，该钱币为折十型，锈色古旧，开门的老生坑。之所以谓之大字版，是因此品钱文四字饱满，寄廓接缘。"宝、宁"二字冠点长且向左倾;长点"崇"，斜丁"宁"，高走"通"等，与被公认的各谱均载的大字"崇宁通宝"雷同。除钱径略小外，轮廓宽窄、穿孔大孝成色亦基本一致。青铜精制，文字骨秀格清，收藏意义大。所以令收藏者对于崇宁通宝的热爱程度是非常的高。ChongningTongbaowasfirstcastintheChongningperiod(1102-1106)ofZhaoYou,HuizongintheNorthernSongDynasty.Therearethreekindsoftreasures:ChongningTongbao,ChongningChongbaoandChongningYuanbao.ChongningTongbaoDangtype10,QianWenisHuizong'srelativebook,soitisimperialbookmoney.Theprocessfeaturesareveryremarkable."SongShi.RecordsofFoodandGoods"records:"Pigironisbeatenintothinsheets,dischargedintoatankcontainingbilewater,impregnatedforseveraldays,andthenscrapedoutmuddycopper(called"redcoal")tobesmeltedinasmeltingfurnace."ChongningTongbaowasoneofthemostimportantcoinsinHuizongperiodofSongDynasty,soitwasverydifficulttoimitateit.Atpresent,therearetwowaysofcounterfeitinginthem***istoalterit,thatis,tochangeitintopreciouscoinswithordinarycoins.Theotheriscounterfeiting.Ifcomparedwithrealcoins,itisnotdifficulttofindthat,firstofall,intermsofwords,thereisnostrengthandstrengthofthethinbody,northeatmosphereoftheimperialstyle.Itisnotdifficulttoobservethecoinandfindthatthefontisstrongandpowerful,whichcorrespondstoHuizong'sauthenticworks.
